What is KW Urban Native Wigwam Project?
Mission
To provide culturally safe and affordable housing for the Indigenous (FNMI) community in Waterloo Region.
Vision
To enhance the quality of life for the Indigenous community by providing affordable housing to live in.
The KWUNWP is a non-profit organization that has served the First Nations, Metis and Inuit (Status or Non-Status) population of the Waterloo Region since 1987. It provides safe, secure, rent geared-to-income housing and affordable housing. for Native people and their families that are in a low or moderate income situation.
KWUNWP will provide tenant support where possible to assist in decreasing hardships and leading to self-sufficiency of individuals and families. This will give First Nations, Metis and Inuit people of this community a chance to grow and prosper, while maintaining a dignified and culturally safe living environment for their families.
KWUNWP is a stepping stone that gives tenants the opportunity to care for a home at an affordable rate, which in turn can create an opportunity to potentially purchase their own home. It also provides temporary relief in between sources of income that prevent you from paying Market Rent or becoming homeless.
